The Geothermalcenter surveys the interdisciplinary scientific training at the GZB-Universitys as well as the transfer of Know-How and Technology of collaborate applied research with the economy. For advancement of young academics is – constitutive to the existing Master Degree of the GZB-Univesities – the postgratuated college “Applied Research on Geothermal Energy Systemy” (AGES) arranged.

The postgraduated college AGES concentrates on complex natural scientific, engineering, and economical connections in exploration, exploitation and use of geothermal energy as an important supporting leg of future, diversified and climate preservative energy supply. AGES amends and connects existing activities on exploratory focuses from the RWTH Aachen, HS Bochum and FH Gelsenkirchen with 13 institutes out of 6 faculties.

Furthermore does an exchange of scientists with national and international cooperative partners of the GZB take place. The cooperative partners include institutes of the University Freiburg, governmental University of polytechnics St. Petersburg (Russia), Universidad Neuvo Leon, Monterrey (Mexiko), Oregon Institute of Technology (USA), De Monfort University Leicester (England).

AGES-promoting-students take part in a research and training program, which reaches through an intensive supervision and integration of the economy an exceeding level of job qualification for scientists.

The finance of AGES is comprehensive. Funds are provided by the department “Angewandte Energiesystemtechnik Ruhr” of the ministry for innovation, science and research of North-Rhein-Westfalia (MIWFT; 5 years) plus bilateral finance agreements between the GZB and companies of the GZB-Economy-Union (AGES-Studentship). AGES-stipend serve transfer orientated cutting-edge research. Aim is the adaption of complex questions concerning scientific quality attributes. At the same time a high usage potential from the professional environment of the supporting company.
