Dissemination of Climate Technologies

Project Summery

The transfer of low carbon technologies to developing and emerging countries is essential if re-ductions in global CO2 emissions and adaptation to climate change are to be realised. The private sector in recipient countries needs to obtain technological know-how and information about the market opportunities in the field of mitigation and adaptation to climate change as part of the technology-transfer process.

For technology providers in Germany the dissemination of knowledge about innovative technologies opens new market opportunities.

The project "Dissemination of Climate Technologies for Mitigation and Adaptation with the Private Sector" will develop capacity building approaches in the field of innovative climate technologies. The training and information offers will be designed in close cooperation with businesses and business associations from developing and emerging countries and from Germany. Target group of the project are private sector representatives from developing and emerging countries.

The project focuses on the following key topics:

  1. Transfer and application of Energy Efficiency Technologies
    • Energy Efficiency in Buildings
    • Energy Efficiency in Industry
  2. Geothermal Energy
  3. Dissemination of Technologies for Adaptation to Climate Change
  4. Identification and Dissemination of innovative businesses cases in the field of climate technologies in emerging and developing countries

The project follows the approach ofthe German Climate Technology Initiative (DKTI) which aims at enhancing the dissemination of climate and environmental technologies along the innovation chain. The German Climate Technology Initiative supports the strengthening of managers and experts by education and training. It advances the market launch and the sustainable deployment of technologies for mitigating and adapting to climate change.

Geothermal Energy

The use of Geothermal energy could make a substantial contribution towards climate protection. Geothermal Energy is always available, independently of the weather and time of the day. If exploited correctly, geothermal energy can assume an important role in the energy balance of some regions worldwide. Sometimes, even small-scale geothermal resources are capable of solving local problems and of raising the living-standards of local communities. Geothermal energy can also supply heating and cooling of buildings and infrastructures just as district heating and power generating.

German companies belong to the world-market leaders in the development and use of innovative technologies for the exploitation of geothermal energy. To transfer this technologies to emerging and developing countries in order to protect the climate and to improve the access to energy, the transfer of knowledge about planning, operation and maintanence of geothermal plants is necessary.

The project component "Dissemination of Climate Technologies: Geothermal Energy" will focus on the capacity building among business representatives concerning the planning, the installation and the operation of geothermal plants in Germany and in developing and emerging countries.

This includes the following activities:

  1. Development of a Blended-Learning Approach "Dissemination of Climate Technologies: Geothermal Energy"
  2. Study Tour “Geothermal Enterprises in Germany – Experiences and Future Develop-ment” for Business Representatives from Developing and Emerging Countries to Germany
