With the building project “Exzenterhaus“ at the Universitätsstraße in Bochum the existing landmarked round bunker is going to be transformed into a high-rise office building. Therefore a trinomial new building with 15 stories is build on top of the 25 m high bunker. During the conception of the technical equipment for the building concentration lay on energetic characteristics and an innovative concept for heating and cooling of the building through concrete-core-activation, pre-warming and pre-cooling via ventilating systems and static heaters.
For the office rental space of 5.560m² a heating load of 660KW and a cooling load of 450KW was estimated. A part of this load (basic load) shall be provided for by a combination of concret-core-activation and ventilation systems.
Within the feasibility study were
- The boundary conditions for the technical feasibility (topography, urban building boundary conditions, regulatory approval) established.
- The operating time dependent on the feasibility data estimated.
- The geological, hydrogeological and thermo-dynamic basics up to depths of around 400m established.
- The geothermal ground heat exchanger field for different depths level modelled.
- The technical system for geothermal energy provision and allocation designed.
This rough dimensioning provides the planning criteria for a continuative assessment period within the approval- and building planning which will be accomplished from January 2009 on.
