Education and Training

As the geothermal energy industry is steadily growing, also the demand for qualified personnel is increasing. In order to meet the increasing demand, the International GeothermalCentre offers a Master's programme "Geothermal Energy Systems" for engineers and scientists and international education and training in cooperation with the IGA Academy. Furthermore the International GeothermalCentre is developing a certified educational programme on "Geothermal Energy Systems" - GeoZert - for target groups with various temporal access and qualifications.

Master's programme

The Bochum University of Applied Sciences offers together with the GZB the Master's programme "Geothermal Energy Systems".The close connection to both research and business at the GZB makes it a practical and diverse programme.

Since winter semester 2018/2019, Master students can study the specialisation "Geothermal Energy Systems" in Environmental Engineering Icon externer Link at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences, exclusively in English, in order to take account of the international interest in this subject. The scientists of the International Geothermal Centre Bochum (GZB), above all Prof. Dr. Rolf Bracke and Prof. Dr. Erik H. Saenger offer courses in drilling technology, geothermal systems, geothermal geology and exploration as well as digital rock physics, reservoir engineering, rock physics, applied geophysics. In addition, international experts are involved on specific topics. Incidentally, there are currently no tuition fees for prospective students from non-EU countries. However, they pay a one-time processing fee of approx. 75 €, as they have to register via Uni-Assist. Only the re-registration fee of around 330 € (includes a ticket for free travel in public transport in North Rhine Westphalia) has to be paid by all applicants. You can apply for the Master program until 28 February (summer semster) resp. 31 August (winter semester).

IGA Academy

The IGA Academy is an institution of the International Geothermal Association (IGA) with the aim of promoting international education and training in the geothermal energy sector.

The head office in Bochum coordinates training measures, which are conducted both at the location in Bochum, as well as at other international learning centers.

GeoZert educational program

The project GeoZert currently develops a multistage educational programme on "Geothermal Energy Systems for the heating and cooling applications" for target groups with various qualifications.

With this focal topic, the educational programme aims at industries, in which there is currently a shortage of specialists.
